What's SixButtons, then? SixButtons is the professional and personal weblog of RB. Primarily, it exists to provide a commentary and insight on the video gaming industry from the independent perspective of an experienced gamer and writer through its editorials, features, and companion video series, QCF TV. Commentary and insight? Gaming is still young, but the founding fathers and mothers who started it on the road of ascendance are very much not. Sadly, some of them have even passed on, with stories of their culture and their projects untold. It should be the duty of every good gaming journalist to delve into both past and present, to dig into these stories, and understand their games. Hopefully, we can write an enthralling article or two about them too. So... just games? Not solely games. Although exploring gaming as a hobby and art form comprises my largest interest, I've also got other musings that I'll be speaking about in the blog, as well as recalling my fondest - or craziest - memories. So what's the name about? When I was younger, stupider and slightly less insane, my friends and I used to play a lot of 2D fighting games, Capcom ones being at the front. Every battle was a rousing, intense flurry of punches, kicks and inhumane special moves. I look back on this time of my life fondly, so when it came to putting this site together, I could think of nothing better than a reference to that lost time. And QCF TV? Stands for Quarter Circle Forward TV. Conventional games journalism doesn't have so much importance as it used to, since a community sharing its views so easily via the Internet can have more effect on the success of a game than a score on Metacritic. Thus, to me, the written word is now about exploration and analysis - leave the conventional for where it can be innovated. I can think of no better way to do this than on video. So can we expect to see fighting games mentioned a lot here? Nah, I love all types of games (except possibly the real time strategy genre, but even then only in certain cases). To be honest, the era of great fighters is over. The designers who put them together seem to have moved onto other worlds, and left behind a generation who just cannot seem to get it right. My mind holds a special place for Street Fighter 4. It's called Hell. Room for anyone else there? SixButtons is my site, and my world. If I felt that having staff writers would negatively affect or dilute the personal parts of the site, I would have to turn down that help. That said, I know there are many out there who are looking for their first steps into journalism and writing, and I'd love to help you. So, chuck me a line and pitch me something, and I'll consider what we can do. Finally, what about you, the author? My name is RB, and I live in the UK. I've been a gamer all my life, and I also love movies, electro and chillout, Japanese dramas and culture, motorsport, football, poker and sports trading. I'm also mildly keen on research into mental health, being a sufferer of depression myself. Aw... Don't worry about me. I have happy fun drugs to help me out! Enjoy the site. Credits |
